من أحدث تقنيات العصر (معرف ترددات الموجات) Rdio Frequency Idfenttification والذي يقترحه الباحث أن يتم استخدامه مع نظم المعلومات الجغرافية ... أترككم مع مختصر من البحث

Most GeoWorld readers likely have heard of radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology, which relies on storing and remotely retrieving data using radio waves. An RFID tag can be attached or embedded to a product, animal or person for identification or tracking. An RFID chip typically is composed of a tiny antenna attached to a tiny ID chip, and it can be passive (without an internal power source) or active (with a built-in power source).

Tempered Concerns

As a citizen, I share the concerns about possible abuses of this powerful technology, especially due to the possibility of invading personal privacy and engendering geoslavery, a risk compellingly warned by my colleague, Jerry Dobson.

Indeed, these Orwellian visions made by possible by RFID, especially its seamless integration with Global Positioning System/GIS technologies, are uncannily similar to the prophecies of Revelation. However, by demonizing RFID and its applications as a “mark of the beast” that will inevitably lead us to an apocalyptic future, Albrecht and McIntyre have “poured out the baby along with the bath water.”

As far as the geospatial industry is concerned, the potential value and contribution of RFID shouldn’t be underestimated. RFID technology can track and trace people and goods at an individual level, which will contribute to the emergence of a new ambient intelligence.

But how to represent and handle this new intelligent environment, using GIS, will be a challenge in the context of ubiquitous computing. The micro-level geography that RFID has revealed should be an integral part of the Digital Earth that has been off the radar screen of traditional geospatial technologies.
EPCglobal, a system of tags to create globally unique serial numbers for all products using RFID technology, may be a concrete step forward to stitch together a new electronic skin for Earth.
